EcoVadis Gold rating improved for 2024
Roadmap for Sustainability
EMD Surface Solutions is proud of the continued recognition of our #sustainability leadership. This is reflected by further improving our official #EcoVadis score to 75/100 in 2024, now placing us among the top 3% of all companies, across all industries, taking part in this assessment and resulting once again in a gold medal! The score is even higher than in 2023, when we also received a gold rating for our sustainability progress.
EMD Surface Solutions earned high scores on all 4 main criteria i.e. Environmental; Ethics; Labor & human rights; and Sustainable procurement practices.
Sustainable Procurement is Key
The improvements in our rating for 2024 firstly came from "sustainable procurement", which focuses on the integration of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles into our procurement processes and decisions, and it incorporates specifications, requirements and criteria that are compatible with the protection of the environment and society as a whole.
This category encompasses many issues beyond, for example, child labor or the use of harmful chemicals that can affect people or the environment. Our commitment to sustainable procurement ensures that our core sustainability values are covered throughout the life cycle of our products.
Environment at Heart
The second category where we improved was Environmental, which focuses on factors that affect the natural environment such as carbon emissions, natural resources, energy efficiency, waste management, and raw material sourcing.
Factors that could negatively affect this Environmental score are irresponsible management of materials and waste, toxic emissions, and a lack of sustainable sourcing. We have for example invested strongly in photovoltaic installations at several of our global production plants, to make our energy mix greener and more sustainable.

INDEPENDENT EXTERNAL VALIDATION
EcoVadis is a trusted global business sustainability ratings platform. The EcoVadis score (0-100) reflects the quality of a company's sustainability management system at the time of the assessment. EcoVadis Medals and Badges recognize eligible companies that have completed the EcoVadis assessment process and demonstrated a relatively strong management system that addresses sustainability criteria.
